Private Class February 18-20, 2026

$1,195.00

Wednesday, February 18 - Friday, February 20, 2025
10 am - 6 pm

We can decide on the details of what the class will cover at a later date. Below is an example of the description of my Gamut Class, a combination of spindle turning and bowl turning.

This class begins with spindle turning, the foundation of all woodturning. We focus on all of the fundamental cuts and shapes. Next, we transfer this knowledge to working on a bowl. We discuss the difference in grain orientation and how it affects the way we approach the wood. We will talk about how to cut the wood out of the log, and how this will affect your design decisions. As always, we discuss freehand grinding using a bench grinder and a platform, and basic elements of design. We will be using the Push Cut style of turning to minimize torn grain in the wood and negative impact on the body. No experience required. We will turn two finished projects in this class, although it is more of a technique focused class rather than a project based course.

All classes listed are offered at Ashley Harwood’s studio in Charleston, SC. All tools and equipment, safety equipment, materials and lunches are provided. All lathes are full sized, 3hp. Classes are limited to seven students in order to maximize hands-on instruction. Please sign up as soon as possible - because space is limited, classes do fill up!

Of the registration fee, $400 is non-refundable.
