This kit is an excellent choice for the dusty environments that woodturning creates, protecting both the face and lungs. It is NIOSH approved and comfortable to wear for a full 8 hour day, with the battery lasting longer than I’ve ever been able to turn! With the fan and motor mounted on the belt, there is minimal weight on the head and neck (the face shield with bump cap weighs just under 1lb.) The face shield is easy to flip up and down without taking off the entire unit. The constant flow of fresh air is surprisingly refreshing on hot days. There is an elastic shroud that fits around the outside of the face to create the seal, which makes it ideal for those with beards or wearing glasses. This kit comes with the filters that are ideal for particulate protection. (Chemical vapor cartridges are also available.) Compared to other powered respirators I’ve worn, it’s the most comfortable, lightest, and has less expensive replacement filters. Importantly, Sundstrom has excellent customer service (unlike another company that told me I needed to purchase an entirely new unit when mine quit working). This unit also has a place for pre-filters, which are inexpensive and can extend the life of your filters when replaced regularly. Once you try it on, you will wonder how you ever turned without it!

APF 25 The SR 500 system is a belt mounted Powered Air-Purifying Respirator (PAPR) with an elastic fitted face shroud (perfect for people with beards or glasses) that protects against particulates, gases and vapors, or a combination. It is designed to be used in oxygen sufficient and non-immediately dangerous to life and health (IDLH) environments. The SR 500 PAPR system functions as an alternative to Air Purifying Respirators (APR) in all situations for which these are recommended. This applies particularly to work that is hard, warm or of long-duration. The filtered air is supplied through a breathing hose to the bump cap face shield. The above-atmospheric pressure then generated prevents pollutants from the surroundings from penetrating into the breathing zone.
The SR 570 is a robust shield with a flip-up visor, and gives the user comfortable and safe respiratory and eye protection. The face shield is fitted with an attachment for hearing protectors. The shield is manufactured in a material that permits use in tough environments. The SR 570 shield is meant to be used with the SR 500 PAPR.
The characteristics of the SR 500 are as follows:

• The same control is used for starting, stopping and selection of operating status
