This kit is an excellent choice for the dusty environments that woodturning creates, protecting both the face and lungs. It is NIOSH approved and comfortable to wear for a full 8 hour day, with the battery lasting longer than I’ve ever been able to turn! With the fan and motor mounted on the belt, there is minimal weight on the head and neck (the face shield with bump cap weighs just under 1lb.) The face shield is easy to flip up and down without taking off the entire unit. The constant flow of fresh air is surprisingly refreshing on hot days. There is an elastic shroud that fits around the outside of the face to create the seal, which makes it ideal for those with beards or wearing glasses. This kit comes with the filters that are ideal for particulate protection. This unit is not compatible with the vapor cartridges - it is for particulate protection only. Compared to other powered respirators I’ve worn, Sundstrom offers the most comfortable, lightest PAPR, and has less expensive replacement filters. Importantly, Sundstrom has excellent customer service (unlike another company that told me I needed to purchase an entirely new unit when mine quit working). This unit also has a place for pre-filters, which are inexpensive and can extend the life of your filters when replaced regularly. Once you try it on, you will wonder how you ever turned without it!
